    (EMTA Awards Ltd) is the UK’s leading awarding body for engineering National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and their Scottish equivalents (SVQs).  With over 70% of engineering vocational qualifications awarded by EAL it is easy to see why we are the market leader in this field.

    Since 1964 EAL has evolved to become who we are today.  Our roots are firmly placed in history and it is this background that has shaped us for today’s competitive markets.

    EAL is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) to award over 60 N/SVQs from levels 1 to 5 in a variety of areas from Engineering to Administration.

    Support is readily available to help centres and candidates and we strive for continuous improvement in offering quality products and service second to none.

    Timeline of the EAL Name

    1964 -Established as the Engineering Industry Training Board (EITB) under the Industrial Training Act

    1990 - EITB becomes the Engineering Training Authority (ETA).  The first N/SVQs were also introduced.

    1991 - The ETA becomes EnTra the new Industry Training Organisation (ITO), Lead Body and Awarding Body for N/SVQs

    1996 - EnTra and M&ETA (Marine & Engineering Training Association) merge.  The new organisation is named the Engineering & Marine Training Authority (EMTA).

    1998 - EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd) is incorporated as a separate company to EMTA.  The newly independent Awarding Body has its own Managing Director and Board of Directors.

    2003 - EAL continues as an Awarding Body supporting the newly named Sector Skills Council Semta and others including ConstructionSkills, GoSkills and SummitSkills.
