Timeline of the EAL
Name
1964 -Established as the Engineering Industry
Training Board (EITB) under the Industrial Training Act
1990 - EITB becomes the Engineering Training
Authority (ETA). The first N/SVQs were also introduced.
1991 - The ETA becomes EnTra the new Industry
Training Organisation (ITO), Lead Body and Awarding Body for
N/SVQs
1996 - EnTra and M&ETA (Marine &
Engineering Training Association) merge. The new organisation
is named the Engineering & Marine Training Authority
(EMTA).
1998 - EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd) is
incorporated as a separate company to EMTA. The newly
independent Awarding Body has its own Managing Director and Board
of Directors.
2003 - EAL continues as an Awarding Body
supporting the newly named Sector Skills Council Semta and others
including ConstructionSkills, GoSkills and SummitSkills.
