Types of Qualification
NVQs & SVQs
(National Vocational Qualifications
and Scottish Vocational Qualifications)
NVQs and SVQs directly relate to
national occupational standards and recognise what a person is able
to do at work. They assess the skills and abilities needed for a
working environment and generally take place in the workplace. EAL
awards 76% of all engineering N/SVQs in the UK. EAL’s N/SVQs offer
flexibility through pathways within qualifications, allowing
candidates to follow a pathway which suits their individual needs.
In addition to this, our N/SVQs are offered at levels 1-5 so meet
the needs of candidates at any stage of their career path.
VRQs*
(Vocationally Related
Qualifications)
EAL’s VRQs are based on national
occupational standards having a balance of both academic and
practical skills to better prepare the candidate for a career or
further study. A VRQ is a qualification that provides knowledge and
understanding in a particular subject area. It is not about
competence, which is the job of an NVQ but can prepare candidates
to deal with the underpinning knowledge and understanding which is
required in an NVQ. EAL’s range of VRQs at levels 1-3 is
constantly growing and they are an excellent qualification for
candidates who want both practical and academic knowledge to pursue
their career goals.
Technical Certificates*
Technical Certificates are VRQs
(Vocationally Related Qualifications) which prepare candidates to
deal with the knowledge and understanding required in a NVQ within
a particular apprenticeship framework.
EAL’s Engineering & Technology
VRQs at Level 2 and 3 and EAL’s Level 2 Certificate in
Business-Improvement Techniques have gained accreditation as
Technical Certificates used in the engineering Apprenticeship and
Advanced Apprenticeship frameworks, making EAL your one-stop shop
for all Apprenticeship components.
* VRQs and Technical Certificates
are not currently recognised under the Scottish qualifications
system.
