  • EAL Business-Improvement Techniques (B-IT) Assessor Diagnostic

A flexible route to meeting the QCF Business-Improvement Techniques (B-IT) NVQ unit assessment requirements

EAL offers a flexible high-quality route for Centres to meet the new assessment requirements for Business-Improvement Techniques (B-IT) NVQs for the QCF.

Semta’s B-IT QCF Unit Assessment Strategy includes a new requirement for assessors who do not hold a B-IT N/SVQ at Level 2 and/or 3. To make sure they have the right level of knowledge and understanding in place to assess B-IT NVQ units for the QCF, assessors without a B-IT qualification must:

    (a)    successfully complete a diagnostic assessment by March 2010 (for current B-IT assessors) or within six months of registering with their awarding organisation (for new B-IT assessors), and

    (b)    achieve a Level 2 or 3 B-IT qualification within 12 months of completing the diagnostic assessment. To demonstrate occupational competence, assessors must achieve a Level 3 B-IT qualification to assess learners for Level 2 and/or Level 3 units. This will apply when the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in B-IT is developed. Assessors will only have to achieve a Level 2 B-IT qualification if they are only going to assess Level 2 learners.

The new requirements do not affect existing B-IT N/SVQs offered by awarding organisations including EAL.

How to use the Assessor Diagnostic

The EAL B-IT Assessor Diagnostic is available via EAL Online Services and features a series of onscreen, multiple choice assessments.

Approved centres can access more information on using the Assessor Diagnostic by clicking here to visit the EAL centre homepage.

By successfully completing the Assessor Diagnostic, assessors will gain an EAL Certificate of Verified Achievement and will be able to assess B-IT units for the QCF while they work towards achieving a B-IT qualification.

Learners who do not feel prepared to take the assessment, fail the assessment or need additional support can download EAL's Knowledge and Understanding diagnostic training modules free of charge from the EAL website.

Centre approval for the Assessor Diagnostic

Centre approval for the Assessor Diagnostic only is free of charge

EAL centres with NVQ approval for B-IT will have the Assessor Diagnostic automatically added to their centre remit. Other EAL centres with NVQ approval (but not for B-IT) can use the standard Centre Revision process to add the Assessor Diagnostic to their remit.

Centres without EAL NVQ approval can apply to access the Assessor Diagnostic by reading the guidance below and completing this interactive form.

Once centre approval is confirmed by email, you will receive log-in details to access the centre homepage and EAL Online Services.
