With a growing need to meet rising demands within the food and drink manufacturing industry, employers’ key focus is to develop a workforce that can innovate and drive competitive growth across the sector.

Working closely with major professional and industry bodies, including Improve the sector skills council for food and drink, EAL has developed a portfolio of qualifications that is focused on delivering the benefits of lean enterprise in food and drink manufacturing. Sitting at the very heart of food and drink manufacturing excellence, change management and lean practices provide the essential ingredients and skills needed by businesses to create sustainable, continuous improvement cultures that deliver improved efficiencies and competitive advantage.

Successful learners will be able to deliver improvements in food and drink manufacturing and processing from both technical and practical perspectives.   Our range of qualifications offer clear entry routes for learners and apprentices, whilst allowing existing workers to enhance their credentials through continuing professional development.

Our portfolio caters for current and emerging skills including:

  • food quality
  • food safety
  • food manufacture
  • problem solving
  • plant maintenance

Qualifications that meet industry needs

Businesses can use our qualifications to improve efficiency, achieve cost and energy savings, boost staff retention and demonstrate the quality of their workforce.  EAL qualifications are designed for learners who are working in a food manufacturing or supply chain environment and offers a sustainable continuous improvement programme for the workplace.

Developed with Improve, the sector skills council for food and drink, these ‘Improve Proficiency Qualifications’ (IPQs) are work-based qualifications that cater specifically for the food and drink industry.
